The 17th century Villa Carlotta was originally a summer home, but nowadays it is used a museum to showcase how the nobility built their summer homes at that time. The villa has a stunning view on the lake, right in front of the palazzo is Bellagio, a popular, marvelous, Italian village.
The villa has been property of many families of nobility, wherefrom Charlotte of Prussia. She lived there in the second half of the 19th century, after she received the villa as a wedding gift from her mother, Princess Marianne of the Netherlands. The villa is named after her.
The scenery around the villa are 8 acres of beautiful botanical gardens, with colourful azaleas and rhododendrons. Because of the passion for gardening of Charlotte’s husband, George II of Saxe-Meiningen, the garden became even more gorgeous.
The interior of the palazzo consists of stylish furniture and numerous works of art by Canova, Hayez and many others.
